Children’s Summer Activity Ideas

We have ten quick and easy children’s activities for summer to help keep the fun going until it’s back to school in just a few weeks.

Line up sheets of paper in the garden and on a sunny day use favourite toys or garden leaves to cast different size shadows to draw fun scenes to paint in.

Farm or dinosaur figurines are perfect for this activity!

2. Imaginative Camping!

Many of us have camped in the garden before, but sometimes the simplest activities are still the most fun and can be a great way to spend quality time together.

Pitch up camp in the garden or create your own blanket fortress.

Turbocharge children’s imagination by asking them where you are on your expedition, pull pictures out of a travel magazine or draw landscape pictures together to set the scene.

Have fun with young children weaving through your home or garden on your ‘journey’ to your camping destination!

3. Rainbow Bingo🌈
————————————————————–

red leaf, blue hydrangea, green fern, orange peacock butterfly, yellow rose

Make a large grid and write a different colour in each square (leaving some space in each square to write in). Make a copy for each child.

Ask children to spot an item matching each colour on their sheet and write it in the corresponding box. Race to find something of every colour in the room or the garden before shouting Bingo!

Repeat in another space or use with younger children on a family walk.

4. Lucky Dip Activity

Ask each family member to jot down some ideas of things they’d like to try their skill at this summer or over the next few months.

Write these ideas onto small folded pieces of paper or clean lolly sticks and pop them into a clean, dry jam jar.

Shake the jar up and take it in turns to pick your next ‘lucky dip’ activity.

5. Adventure Cooking 🥘
————————————————————–

Fire up the BBQ or buy a small disposable BBQ and have fun making your own favourite flavour skewers or after-dinner treats such as chocolate-baked bananas!

6. Rock Paining

We’ll be announcing our own fun country-themed Active Chefs camp for October soon, stay tuned for updates!

8. Grow at Home 🌿

Try planting and growing some crops from seed together!

It’s often a novelty to have memories to look back on that aren’t on a phone or device.

Bring your favourite family memories to life offline and have fun in the process!

Send your favourite summer family photos to be printed, pitch up a blanket in the garden, bring the arts and crafts supplies and make a summer montage with your favourite images.

Alternatively buy a scrapbook to create a memory book together to share with relatives or to treasure for years to come.
